This is my second attempt at the "watercolor" prompt for the Nail Crazies Unite group on Facebook. At first, I tried to use the acetone-and-nail polish trick to do some watercolor painting on my nails. It ended in failure, but I had an idea that I wanted to try out combining stamping and water decals.
I also had some really cute watercolor style decals that I wanted to try out.
This post kind of is an echo of a post I did a while ago, where I combined stamping with some hand-made decal sheets for a geometric galaxy look. I wanted to try it again, but with an improved method and with water decals.
I started off with a white base for my middle nails, and painted my pointer/pinky with the lovely Sinful Colors "Tealing Power" from the Stoned Crystal Shimmer collection that was released this spring.
Next I pulled out my favorite MoYou London plate, from the "Holy Shapes" collection. I stamped the triangle design twice- once onto my silicone mat, and once onto the water decal. (I removed the protective plastic sheet from the water decal prior to stamping on it.) Then, I put topcoat over the stamping I did on my mat. While that was drying, I cut out the little triangle shape left inside the stamping that I did on the water decal. That left the perfect sized triangle to fit inside the lines. I soaked the little triangle decal in water, then placed it over my stamped and top coated image that was on my mat. After adding a little green to the design, my decal was ready to put on my ring finger.
Originally I was going to do a slightly different decal/geometric stamping design on my middle finger, but I screwed it up when placing it on my nail so I ended up going the easier route and putting a full water decal on that nail. I figured you'd also get more of the "watercolor" look that way, and maybe it would fit the challenge better.
I hope you enjoyed this slightly different take on water decals! Be sure to check out the link-up below for some more watercolor nail art looks!
Pretty! I am really liking Tealing Power! It has a neat depth!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, that polish is so pretty! It did stain my fingers a little bit... but I think it's worth it. ;)
DeleteSmart cutting the water decal into a triangle. It looks really sharp with the border.
ReplyDeleteThank You! Having thendesign stamped onto it made it really easy to get it cut right.
DeleteMoyou London should start sending you plates since you keep making such a good case for their Holy Shapes collection. :)
