Today's post is for the Challenge Your Nail Art group on Facebook, where they have challenges every other month. This week's prompt is "galaxies". The last time I did a galaxy was waaaaayyy back in the 31 Day Challenge, but I really wanted to bring some contrast into my design today so I decided to go geometric and created this:
This was a lot more involved to do than a traditional all-over galaxy design, but I do like how it turned out.
I started off by painting a few large patches of galaxy pattern onto my silicone mat. I used a sponge to dab on different shades of blue to create layers, then painted my nails with Sinful Colors "Snow Me White" while I let my galaxy decals dry.
I also used this awesome galaxy plate by Bundle Monster to stamp the little stars onto my galaxy designs. This plate sure does simplify that step, but it is not strictly necessary- you can also just add white dots with dotting tool or brush.
My next step was to break out this bad boy; my favorite plate. I decided to do a modified reverse stamping technique to make this work. I went ahead and transferred the designs I wanted to fill in to a stamper head. Then I peeled off my galaxy decals from my silicone mat and held them over the stamping plate, and used the plate as a guide to cut my decals into the right shape of triangle to fit the stamping images. (Hopefully that's clear as mud.)
Next, I added the cut triangles to fit into the spaces on the designs on my stamper head, then sealed the whole thing with topcoat. After it was dry, I transferred it to my nails and trimmed away the excess.
I only did this for the triangle images; the other images were much more straightforward. All I had to do for those was cut the decal in a squareish shape, place it on my nails, trip the excess and stamp the stripes at the top.
Are you a fan of the galaxy nail trend? If you want, I invite you to link your favorite galaxy nail look that you've done in the comments down below and I'd love to take a look!
This is awesome! I think the contrast worked perfectly, it really helps to bring the galaxy out! I love Galaxy nail art but I'm not so skilled in making it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! You are such a sweetheart.
DeleteI really like the idea of combining Galaxy with geometric shapes :) I love Galaxy nails but haven't done them in ages! Here is mine from ages ago... Also from 31 day challenge haha http://lovestrucklacquer.blogspot.ca/2014/07/omd2-31dc-galaxy-17th.html

ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, this plate sure does make galaxies a lot easier.
DeleteWow! This is so unique & beautiful; I would never even have thought of doing reverse stamping that way!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words! I have to admit, it was a bit of a pain to do but I really enjoyed looking at the results.
